Excellent device! It perfectly plays back 4K Blu-ray remuxes with Dolby Vision Profile 7 FEL (Full Enhancement Layer), delivering superior image quality compared to many competitors that ignore or mishandle this layer.Setup isn’t overly complicated, especially with AI assistance: Grok provided accurate, up-to-date instructions, while Gemini suggested outdated steps that no longer apply to current firmware/CoreELEC versions.I stream my movies in full quality via NFS from my Synology DS218+ NAS, with rock-solid stability and no buffering—even on large files.100% recommended for anyone seeking top-tier performance with Blu-ray remuxes and a premium home theater experience. 5 stars!

If you’ve ended up browsing reviews for this older, obscure streaming box, I imagine you know roughly what you’re getting into already. The community backing this device is amazing, there is ample assistance in getting CoreElec up and running on this thing. I had no issues whatsoever with that, installation and setup only took me ~30 mins. The speed of the device is quite snappy, I do not feel as if it’s slow at all – browsing my collection of ~161 movies and ~39 series via plex is quite snappy, and it loads quite quickly. Occasionally I will have whole-hog 80+ GB 4K DV remuxes pause to buffer, but that’s quite likely due to a bottleneck somewhere in my setup. After first installing, there were occasional hiccups with the device as well, but making sure it’s updated helps a lot (fixed all of them I experienced), and again, the community behind this thing is awesome. The value of this device is excellent if you know what you’re getting into and intend to back up your own library, coming in at under half the UB800 with more functionality. The one item I will disagree with many of these existing reviews on is the remote – a lot of people spoke negatively of it. It’s certainly nothing fancy, but I thought it was perfectly adequate for its purpose and have had no issues with it not registering inputs, it paired easily…it’s a remote, and it works. In summary, if you think this device is going to fit your needs, it msot likely will, and you won’t regret the purchase. I certainly don’t.

A great little device that plays Dolby Vision 7 FEL files perfectly.

Running the proper CoreELEC with the Plex add on gives you full Dolby Vision 7 Full Enhancement Layer support for ripped Blu-rays. It even allows for configuring an SMB connection to my NAS (running Plex Server) to avoid any Plex transcoding while still using the Plex interface for movies.Fully configurable for video and sound, you and set it up to perfectly match what your TV and sound system require for the best experience you’d get by playing the Blu-ray natively in a Blu-ray player. While it may seem expensive, what it delivers makes it seem more like a bargain. Interface is snappy with CoreELEC, no concerns with performance.I run Apple TV 4k for streaming and this for my local media. It’s truly one of a kind.

This device is worth every penny they ask and then some. It’s twice as snappy as the nvidia shield and that says a lot. Install coreelec in a dual boot so you can enjoy youtube and also all your other content in better than nvidia shield quality. Plays perfectly with high end atmos systems.

if you self host plex or jellyfin, this is the streaming box for you. if you’re a remote streamer (e.g. netflix), look elsewhere, but tl;dr, get an apple tv, which is half the price and better in every way except plex/jellyfin. it gets even more complicated for plex/jellyfin users, as you should only concern yourself with this box if you specifically watch blu-ray remuxes (that is, a direct blu-ray rip without any video/audio codec changes). if you just watch encodes, or content from streaming services, then the apple tv is still the best you can buy. once you get into blu-ray’s however, the apple tv is missing a few hdr-specific profiles needed for the highest quality playback. it is also missing audio passthrough, so home theater peeps simply cannot use atmos height channels for blu-ray remuxes.enter the ugoos am6b+, an android box with the infamous S922X-J soc, which, due to an oversight, supports ALL hdr formats, and all audio codecs. so you simply install an alternate operating system called coreelec (look it up, tons of guides for the ugoos am6b+), and ta-dah. you can now direct play blu-ray rips as if you were playing them on an actual blu-ray player. coreelec even supports blu-ray menus, so you can legitimately navigate blu-ray rips completely digitally. this particular box also has wi-fi 6, and has no issue playing uhd remuxes. the most i played tonight was 80mbps, and it didn’t buffer once. something i was really concerned about as other, cheaper android boxes in the past can struggle. this is an area where the apple tv excelled, so i’m glad the ugoos doesn’t falter so far. running an ethernet cable to this part of the home would have been a nightmare and an instant return of this product, despite it’s strengths.it’s not all rainbow and sunshines though. this thing lacks a lot of the horsepower and optimization you get from an apple tv. the menus are slow as hell. the framerate in menu navigation feels like a 2010 android smartphone. the experience, in just about every way, is a huge step down. everywhere but the video playback. and in the end, i suppose that is the most important thing. still, it does suck losing so much just because dolby are a greedy scum company and apple are a lazy monopoly. two corporate behemoths hell bent on preventing world peace. or something. anyways, the remote is probably the worst part, as when you first turn the box on, it is IR-only. however, this is easily resolved by pairing the remote via bluetooth. once done, it works fairly well. it’s minimalist with no ads like netflix. the only thing it really needed was a fast forward/rewind button. also programmable shortcut buttons would’ve been nice. you can, thankfully, buy a third party remote and use whatever you like. so while the remote isn’t great, there are solutions that i think would make everyone happy.the last thing i want to comment on is the price. it’s ridiculous at $188. it’s solely charging this much because they have an absolute monopoly on us self-hosting nerds. every other product for plex/jellyfin is worse. and plex/jellyfin people are generally who you would find with flagship TV’s and sound systems, so we can afford it, and ugoos knows it. it costs more than double what an apple tv costs, and those things are amazing. this product is price gouging, plain and simple. when a better product comes along at a cheaper price, we will all jump ship without any brand loyalty hesitations, and ugoos will fade into obscurity. but that will require another soc to be released with full dolby vision support, which quite honestly may never happen again. it’s a sad world we live in where greedy companies fight to keep things locked down solely in the interest of making more money. us consumers pay the price, quite literally in this case.

I installed coreelec on it and it’s handled every video file I’ve thrown at it. Having used other boxes, I expected some files to work and some not to. It took some time to learn how to get the settings the way I needed, but once I did, I’ve had no issues playing anything.
